How to Brew: Siphon (Vacuum Pot)
A theatrical brewing method using vacuum pressure. Water is heated in a lower chamber, rises to an upper chamber to brew, then filters back down. Produces a remarkably clean, tea-like cup.
What You Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Fill Bottom Globe
Fill the bottom globe with hot water. This speeds up the heating process.
Attach Top Globe
Place the filter in the top globe and attach it to the bottom globe with a tight seal.
Heat Until Water Rises
Apply heat. As water heats, vapor pressure pushes it up into the top globe. This is the magic of vacuum brewing.
Add Coffee and Stir
Once most water is in the top globe, add 25g of medium-ground coffee. Stir gently for 10 seconds.
Brew for 90 Seconds
Let it brew for 60-90 seconds. Stir once halfway through.
Remove Heat
Remove the heat source. As the bottom globe cools, vacuum pressure draws the brewed coffee down through the filter. Serve immediately.
Pro Tips
- -Siphon brewing is theatrical and produces an incredibly clean cup.
- -The cloth filter gives a unique body. Clean it thoroughly between uses.
- -Medium grind works best. Too fine clogs the filter, too coarse under-extracts.
- -Use this method to impress guests. The vacuum process is mesmerizing to watch.
