How to Brew: AeroPress
A versatile, portable brewer invented in 2005. Uses air pressure to push water through coffee, producing a clean, concentrated brew. Beloved for experimentation and travel.
What You Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Heat Water
Heat water to 185-205F (85-96C). AeroPress is versatile with temperature. Lower temps for lighter roasts, higher for darker.
Grind Medium-Fine
Grind 15g of coffee to medium-fine, between espresso and pour-over. Similar to table salt.
Prepare AeroPress
Place a paper filter in the cap and rinse with hot water. Assemble the AeroPress in the inverted position (plunger on bottom).
Add Coffee and Water
Add grounds to the inverted AeroPress. Pour 220g of water and stir gently for 10 seconds.
Steep
Wait 1 minute. The total brew time with AeroPress is much shorter than other methods.
Flip and Press
Attach the filter cap, flip onto your mug, and press down steadily for 20-30 seconds. Stop when you hear a hiss.
Pro Tips
- -The inverted method prevents premature dripping and gives you more control.
- -AeroPress is incredibly forgiving. Experiment with ratios, temps, and times.
- -Press gently. Forcing too hard creates bitterness.
- -Try metal filters for a fuller body with more oils.
