Barista Gear

Good coffee starts with good gear. Upgrading from a blade grinder to a decent burr grinder will do more for your cup than any $50 bag of beans ever could. We evaluate equipment the way we evaluate cafes | holistically, focused on what actually matters in the cup.

Gear FAQ

What is the most important piece of coffee equipment?+

A quality burr grinder. Grind consistency has the biggest impact on extraction and flavor. Even a basic pour-over with a good grinder will produce better coffee than an expensive machine with a blade grinder.

How much should I spend on a home espresso setup?+

A capable entry-level setup (grinder + machine) starts around $500-700. Mid-range setups that produce cafe-quality espresso run $1,000-2,000. Diminishing returns kick in above $3,000 for home use.

Do you physically test the equipment you review?+

We research specifications, analyze community feedback, and compare against alternatives. We do not claim to physically test every product. Our scores reflect researched analysis, not hands-on testing. This is disclosed transparently.

Our approach: We research specs, analyze community feedback, and compare against alternatives in the same price range. We do not physically test every product | we are transparent about that. Affiliate links are marked and never influence scores.
